This one simple fact, alone, totally destroys evolution; it is the death-knell of evolution.

In mathematics if even one instance were found where 2 X 3 = 7 all of mathematics as we know it would be destroyed. Similarly we have one geological formation which, all by itself,  conclusively proves that layers in the geological column did not take millions of years to form as required by evolution, but, instead, were formed in relatively short periods of time. There is only one logical, reasonable, scientific conclusion. It is so simple that any grade school child can comprehend it. It is conclusive proof that, as an explanation of the origin of species, evolution is dead.

There exists along the Red River in Nova Scotia, Canada an exposed river bank where there are alternating layers of coal and sedimentary rock. According to popular teaching each layer of sedimentary rock took millions of years to form. Similarly each layer of coal took millions of years to form as forest after forest grew and fell over a period of millions of years, next supposedly the forested land sank and remained under the sea for millions and millions of years while a layer of sediment formed above the forested strata that was to become coal, that sediment destined to become the layer of sedimentary rock above the coal seam. Then the ocean bottom rose and, supposedly, forest again grew for millions of years, destined to become the next layer of coal followed by the land sinking and again becoming the bottom of the ocean where sediment that was to become the next layer of sedimentary rock again accrued for millions more years until the bottom of the sea again rose and became covered with forest for millions more years in order for the material that would become the next layer of coal to form was deposited… and so on and so on, for cycle after cycle for as many layers of coal and sedimentary rock as can be observed.

That is the accepted teaching about how the alternating layers of coal and sedimentary rock were formed.

Enter one very significant problem – well, really, the death of evolution as a valid explanation for the origin life. The multiple alternating layers of coal and sedimentary rock are penetrated by vertical upside-down petrified tree trunks.

Picture it in your mind. Trees are vertical with the branches at the bottom and the roots at the top and they are extending up through all of these layers of coal and sedimentary rock.

Now there is a decision to be made. If one is to believe that each of those alternating layers of coal and sedimentary rock took millions of years to form then it is necessary to also believe that those gigantic trees stood upside-down and vertical while for millions of years forest grew up all around them and fell down, all the while, these particular trees remained undecayed and vertical; then the land sank and remained at the bottom of the ocean for millions more years while sediment accumulated and, still, these same trees remained unmoved and undecayed and upside-down with the branches at the bottom and the roots at the top and that, again, the bottom of the ocean rose and forest grew for millions more years to form the next layer of coal, and  again these same giant trees stood upside down and undecayed while that forest grew up and fell down over millions of years until, again, the land sank and the ocean came in and sediment accumulated for millions of years… for thirteen cycles.

That is the only possible explanation if one is to believe what is commonly taught in the schools regarding geology and evolution being the explanation of the origin of species, of life as we know it. And, obviously, it is completely impossible. Therefore we come to the inescapable conclusion that evolution as an explanation of the origin of life is logically, reasonably, scientifically, dead.I am indebted to the intellect of Harold W. Clark, author of Fossils, Flood, and Fire for introducing me to this remarkable geological formation in that book.
